Questionnaire Results

1. This was my first question, it helps me understand later in my results what target audience we should be aiming for.

2. This will again (like the first one) help me when I get my later results and helps me understand what type of audience we should be aiming for, I decided not to ask anyone under 13 because I felt they would be too young for the type of music we were looking at, so in hindsight this question was very much pointless.

3. Whats your favourite genre of music?
For this question I didn’t put down any choices, I wanted to see what people truly liked and didn’t give them a chance to look at other ideas they may not have thought of because they didn’t truly like it but as soon as they saw it may have influenced them, this may have not worked but even if it didn’t I still got the results so changing the formant of the question was good. The results I got were people in the age range of 14-19 enjoyed all types of music, I had 5 say rap. 14 say rock/alternative (I decided to do this because from the beginning of working in my group we had an idea of what we wanted to do and these two were the main themes - I also did this in my media analysis) So that was the most popular which was a good sign. 5 say pop. And finally 1 say metal.
In the 20-25 range I had 6 say rock/alternative, another good sign and 1 say rap.
In 26+ I had 2 say rock/alternative.
Genders did not really play a part on choice apart from in 14-19 when 4 females said pop and 2 said rap. So perhaps we should aim more at the male gender in our planning, but we should not stray away from the other gender because they enjoy it just as much, considering the amount in that age range I was bound to have a wider amount of views.

4. What colours would you expect to see in your genre of music?
For this answer I mainly looked at the rock/alterative section because from my results I saw that’s what people were most interested in, so the general answer I got was black, white, red, but I got all types of other colours as well, I asked a few people why they wrote what they wrote and they said because rock is the main genre and it’s just normal people that
Play it and listen to it, but the main answers were red, white and black, with blue and dark colours in other places.

5. What’s your favourite band?
This question was very broad with no real answer with just a few people choosing the same band/artist. This question may perhaps be un-necessary, but when I have done questionnaires previously writing and answer them I have found it gets the person answering it to think about their answers, previous and later to come, it’s just a nice question to ask and get people thinking.

6. With this question the answers were all across the board. So this is where I can use my questions of age and gender to look deeper into the answers, though they did not help this time, it seemed everyone liked everything, even when looking into what type of genre they liked the answers were again across the board, perhaps if I specified the question to ‘What type of music video do you think suits your favourite genre of music the best’
Though through my Media Analysis I can see that most rock/alternative videos cover the 3 sections, though all the 3 types of video change with each genre of music video and the song.

7. What’s your favourite music video?
The same result as question 5, but the same reason. Perhaps it would have been better before the question above because it may have influenced what they truly like. Hard to get an answer because of the many band before this time which people still listen to and just the variety of bands and videos we have today, very hard to get a basic answer for this.

8. How often do you watch music videos?
The most pointless question, no real influence on later results or planning, just a question to ask, results mainly every other day or every 3 days.

9. When I asked this question I added 1 thing, I split it up into these time sections which I forgot to add. I also asked where they thought rock/alternative should go (I did this because this was the genre that most people favoured and because that’s the one my group wanted to look at) the answer I got was that it completely depended on the song when I was handed them back in most cases, but they still answered, with 10 saying 3 minutes, 11 saying 3 and a half, 12 saying 4 minutes and 2 saying 4 and a half. Through asking this question I found out most people thought a range of 3-4 minutes was the best length with the same answer for rock, so this helped me choose songs later in my media analysis.

10. This question will help with advertising and what we could possibly add in advertising, like “Now On ITunes” or “Free on YouTube on our channel”, so this will help with later research
